Three things we need to prepare to live in the era of artificial intelligence! A 7-year-old speaks!

I am a father of three sons, and the second son is now 7 years old. He has just started the second grade in elementary school.

A few days ago, I asked my second son.

In the future, we will be living in the era where artificial intelligence is widely used. What should we prepare to live in such an era?

Perhaps for my child who might live more closely with artificial intelligence than I do… I unconsciously asked this question while pondering what I should prepare. It might have been a more difficult question than I thought…

After asking the question, my son thought for about 2-3 seconds and then said the following three things.

Dad, we need to

  • Read a lot of books.
  • Be good at English.
  • Do good things.

We need to read a lot of books.
We need to be good at English.
We need to do good things.
Without any hesitation, he mentioned these three things. So, I was taken aback and asked my child.

Did someone teach you this?

It wasn’t like that. He said it was his own idea. I could roughly guess the meaning of numbers 1 and 2, but the “good things” in number 3 were ambiguous, so I asked him to explain more.

Then he explained like this:

We need to do good things. The ones you think of, Dad. We need to do things that even you would think are good.

Do good deeds. It has to be something good in your eyes too.

After asking a few more questions, I understood this context.

He said we need to do kind and virtuous acts. He said AI shouldn’t become a bad villain. It seems that most of the robots or AI he had seen in the videos were evil.

What about you guys?

The more I think about it, the more plausible it seems.

The importance of creativity and learning ability

As he mentioned, reading a lot and learning is still important in the age of artificial intelligence. In addition, it is important to develop creativity and problem-solving skills. AI can solve complex problems that we have not been able to solve so far, and for this, creative ideas and solutions are needed. The ability to detect and discern the errors created by AI also comes from the basic power of reading.

The importance of English skills

Since most IT technologies are based on English materials or documents, the higher your English skills, the more likely you are to quickly obtain more information. Moreover, many AI models use so-called ‘fine-tuned’ (precisely adjusted by humans beforehand) data in their learning process. As this is based on English, being good at English is also an important factor.

Doing good deeds along with ethical issues

As AI technology advances, ethical issues between humans and AI will become increasingly important. It is crucial to take ethical responsibility while developing and utilizing artificial intelligence.

Moreover, doing good deeds and virtuous acts is also an essential value in the age of AI. After all, AI aims to model and resemble humans. AI shouldn’t become a bad villain, should it?
